Grandma "Mimi" and Grandpa "Chips" are visiting this week.  So far we've gone blueberry picking, seen the Seattle Art Museum and spent some quality time together.

Josephine has made her first few outings including a bus trip on the 66.  We've gone to Cloud City Coffee for lunch, Target for diapers (we're having a hard time finding cloth diapers that will fit her tiny bum), and South Lake Union to walk around.

Here's a short video of some of Josephine's daily activity. Sorry its a bit dark.
Here are some close-ups from day 4. Josephine is getting into a good poop, eat, sleep, repeat pattern. We are having fun as new parents discovering her little quirks. She sleeps more during the day right now than at night, so we've been up a bit, but are not too tired yet. Alicia's milk come in so there's more for Josephine to eat. Check out the first one where she is wiped out on milk, then she sleeps. She has discovered and loves her hands, which she's always trying to keep near her face.

Josephine Supernavage Henry was born on August 5th at 16:37 at the University of Washington Medical Center, weighing in at 4 lbs 6 oz.

At my prenatal visit last Friday, my blood pressure was a little high.  I took it easy over the weekend but had a terrible headache on Tuesday.  My midwife had me come in and did some blood work.   My blood pressure had gone up since Friday.  She said she would get the test results and consult with an OB.  She called at 9am the next morning and told me that I needed to go to UW right away to start an induction.

Brian and I went to UW to start the induction on Wednesday morning.  It was a total surprise to have the plan change so quickly.  I started  on IVs and medicine to get me ready to deliver.  By Thursday morning I was having contractions.  My blood pressure was checked and I was allowed to move around the room.  I sat on a birth ball and my water broke around noon.  Very quickly the contractions changed and got much more intense.  I moved on the ball for an hour and a half and then moved into the tub.  Again, things changed quickly and was ready to push in an hour.  As I was in the tub, they kept pumping me with blood pressure medicine.  I got onto the bed and started to push.  Her heart rate kept dropping and my blood pressure kept rising dramatically every time I pushed.  To avoid a very fast emergency c-section, they used a vacuum as she crowned to get her out.

She's very healthy- just small.  She was born just a few days shy of her due date.  She's eating, sleeping and pooping.  We are home now and grateful that the drama happened in a safe location.

Thank you to everyone for your support!
